Job Description
We are the Industry Vertical Engineering team at ServiceNow. We design and build specialized software solutions tailored to the unique workflows, data models, and compliance needs of specific sectors, including high-tech, telecommunications, healthcare, financial services, and manufacturing. We are building the next generation of industry-specific enterprise applications, and increasingly these applications are AI-native: their core behavior is model-driven rather than explicitly authored. They interpret user intent, reason over context, invoke tools, and act on the user's behalf, all while respecting the complex business workflows and specialized data models of the industries we serve. As an Associate Applications Development Engineer , you will complete well-scoped, clearly-defined tasks under close guidance from senior engineers. You will contribute to production software across the full application stack — from user-facing interfaces to back-end services and APIs — while building foundational skills in full-stack development, code quality, and AI-assisted engineering. What you get to do in this role: - Complete guided bug fixes, simple feature enhancements, and test writing across front-end (React/Angular/Vue, HTML5/CSS3) and back-end (REST/GraphQL APIs, business logic) layers, following established team conventions. - Contribute to features that incorporate AI-native behavior — such as agentic workflows and conversational experiences — under the direction of senior engineers, developing a working understanding of how these systems are designed and tested. - Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests for your work; participate in code review as an author; and adhere to coding standards, linting rules, and documentation practices. - Begin using AI coding assistants (such as GitHub Copilot or Cursor) under supervision to accelerate implementation, learning to critically evaluate AI-generated code for correctness, security, and maintainability rather than accepting it at face value. - Learn to work within CI/CD pipelines, participate in deployments, and develop awareness of how code ships reliably and operates in production. - Raise blockers promptly, ask questions freely, and communicate progress clearly to your tech lead and teammates in sprint ceremonies and check-ins. - Partner with product managers, designers, and senior engineers to understand requirements and translate them into working, well-tested software.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role you have: Experience in leveraging or critically thinking about how to integrate AI into work processes, decision-making, or problem-solving. This may include using AI-powered tools, automating workflows, analyzing AI-driven insights, or exploring AI's potential impact on the function or industry. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field 0–2 years of professional software engineering experience, or a strong academic background with relevant internship or project work. Foundational knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming; beginning-level proficiency in at least one
