As an Associate Actuarial Director, you'll use your actuarial expertise, analytics, and leadership to the forefront, supporting ASO strategy, and partnering across the business to influence results. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week. Travel for this role will be less than 10% per year, meeting with Consultants around the country.
Primary Responsibilities
Analyze and interpret the key drivers of health care trends and network competitive positioning Conduct and evaluate studies on pricing, utilization and health care costs; determine the impact on pricing, guarantees, and health product proposals Collaborate with Healthcare Economics, Consultant Relations, Network, Client Management, and Client Development teams to create actionable insights and reporting Perform mathematical analyses and actuarial modeling to provide management with statistical findings and conclusions Develop and present strategic analyses and recommendations to senior leadership teams Collaborate with external industry business partners and consultants Design and run complex data programs as you perform quantitative analysis of actuarial, financial, utilization, and cost data You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience ASA (Associate of the Society of Actuaries) or FSA (Fellow of the Society of Actuaries) designation 5+ years of experience in actuarial science, data science, predictive analytics, or related quantitative disciplines Experience gathering, analyzing, and applying competitive intelligence to support business strategy Experience applying AI and large language models (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude) to solve complex business problems Experience presenting technical information to leadership and non-technical audiences Proven ability to translate emerging technologies into practical, scalable solutions for business users Proven excellent collaboration, communication, and change leadership skills Advanced or higher proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint and SQL Preferred Qualifications: Proficiency with SAS (Statistical Analysis System) Experience in health care consulting, payer, or employer-sponsored health plan environments Basic proficiency with Tableau and/or R and/or Python Key Competencies: Anticipates business needs and proactively develops solutions to address them Solves complex problems through innovative and data-driven approaches Performs advanced analytical and conceptual evaluations to support decision-making Influences cross-functional stakeholders and business outcomes through insight and expertise Translate complex analytical findings into clear, actionable recommendations for leadership May lead projects, strategic initiatives, or cross-functional workgroups Build solid partnerships and collaborate effectively across the organization *All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy Pay is based on
