Join the world-class safety culture at Amazon Web Services (AWS) and be part of supporting the largest cloud computing infrastructure team as a Regional Safety Manager. This role owns the Health and Safety function for the Germany and Sweden and supervises a team of Health and Safety professionals across both countries. You will be part of a regional and global team that works with internal and external partners to maintain and enhance the safety of operations. Close collaboration with onsite physical security, vendors, compliance officers, risk management, and fire/life safety systems is required. Additionally, you will work with employees and contractors to achieve specific safety objectives. You will set the vision and define the safety strategy for your regional portfolio, design the right team structure and mechanisms to meet long-term business goals, and achieve consensus on priorities with senior operations partners. The ADC portfolio is in a period of growth, expanding across established sites and new builds, so you will anticipate future capacity needs and build a workforce strategy to match. The candidate must hold a valid Fachkraft für Arbeitssicherheit (SIFA) certification and will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable German occupational safety legal obligations, including risk assessments (Gefährdungsbeurteilungen), employee safety training, Safety Committee (ASA) participation, incident reporting, and regulatory requirements under the Arbeitsschutzgesetz (ArbSchG), DGUV Regulation 1, and SGB VII, as well as ensuring full adherence to all AWS safety policies and management systems. This role sits within the EMEA Data Center Health and Safety team, where English is the working language for all business communication, collaboration, and reporting. Interviews will be conducted in English, and advanced English proficiency (written and spoken) is required. This role is based in Germany. Regular travel across Germany and Sweden is required. Key job responsibilities Strategy & Leadership • Own the safety strategy for Germany and Sweden, translating regional and global priorities into a multi-year execution roadmap with measurable outcomes. • Operate as a core member of the EMEA DCHS regional leadership team, contributing to regional strategy development and representing Germany and Sweden in regional and global programme forums. • Lead the end-to-end delivery of regional and global health and safety programmes from inception through execution, ensuring consistent rollout across assigned clusters. • Deliver MBR and QBR narratives incorporating leading/lagging indicators, trend analysis, and strategic responses to performance gaps. • Anticipate growth and investment needs and build workforce and succession strategy to match a scaling portfolio.
Team
Management & Development • Manage and develop a team of Health and Safety professionals across Germany and Sweden, driving hiring, coaching, performance management, and succession planning. • Recruit and retain safety talent, ensuring the team structure supports current and future operational needs. Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management • Ensure compliance with German occupational safety legislation (ArbSchG, ASiG, DGUV Vorschrift 2, BG requirements) and Swedish legislation (Arbetsmiljölagen, AFS provisions). • Lead documented Gefährdungsbeurteilungen (risk assessments) per ArbSchG §5-6, including psychosocial risk assessments, and coordinate with the appointed Betriebsarzt (occupational physician) under the ASiG dual-appointment model. • Navigate the German dual inspection system and partner with AWS compliance and legal teams on regulatory interpretations across both jurisdictions.
