Title and Summary AI & Data Co-Op (Northeastern University), Spring 2027 – Purchase, NY, US What team will I join? At Mastercard, our AI and Data teams set direction, build shared capabilities, and work side-by-side with cross-functional teams to scale AI and data responsibly across the organization. This team focuses on insight, accuracy, scalability, and impact, and are driven to deliver intelligent solutions that improve decision-making and customer experience. The AI & Data team at Mastercard build models that analyze large datasets, detect fraud, personalize customer experiences, and generate insights into the direction of the economy on behalf of our customers. Location: Mastercard Purchase, NY. Must be able to be in office 3+ days a week. Duration: January 2027 to May 2027, 35-40 hours per week Hourly Rate: $55/hr What will I do? As an AI & Data Co-op, you will: - Be a member of a high-performing team of data science and AI professionals. - Work on AI projects that include, applying statistical analysis, machine learning, and data mining techniques using languages such as Python, SQL, or R. - Help develop and evaluate predictive models with a focus on accuracy, explainability, and responsible AI practices. - Be exposed to various phases of the data science and AI lifecycle from data exploration and feature engineering through model development, validation, and deployment. - Help solve challenges that cut across products, regions, and customer needs. Examples include: 1. building AI systems that support safer, smarter, and more personal commerce 2. developing shared data platforms and lakehouse capabilities to accelerate innovation 3. improving data discoverability, quality, and lifecycle management 4. advancing AI deployment, monitoring, and operations at enterprise scale 5. supporting new AI ideas through a structured AI intake and prioritization process What skills and experiences are we looking for?  - Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program at Northeastern University in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field with a graduation date between Dec 2027 – June 2028 - Exposure to statistics, probability, machine learning concepts, and data analysis techniques. - Experience working with data manipulation and analysis tools (e.g., Python libraries such as pandas, NumPy, or scikit-learn, or similar tools). - Familiarity with data visualization and storytelling concepts to communicate insights effectively. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in exploring datasets, identifying patterns, and interpreting results using appropriate tools and techniques. - This role is not eligible for Mastercard’s work authorization sponsorship.
