About this role
Why Genentech: We advance science so that we all have more time with the people we love. A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available for a highly motivated and independent candidate to join the laboratory of Dr. Jonathan Ostrem in the Department of Translational Medicine at Genentech. Our laboratory focuses on mechanistic understanding of molecular therapeutics and the development of discovery platforms for novel therapies. This position will focus on defining the effects of small molecule ligands on chromatin remodeling and engagement of chromatin by transcription factors. The postdoctoral fellow will have an opportunity to collaborate across the organization, including drug discovery, research oncology, translational genomics, and computational sciences, and with academic partners.
The Opportunity
To employ state-of-the-art technologies to explore chromatin structure and transcription factor engagement in the context of chemical modulators. To collaborate with other researchers across the organization to accelerate research progress and foster interdisciplinary knowledge. To take advantage of Genentech’s rich environment of core facilities, including animal modeling, protein chemistry, and computational biology. To participate in the Genentech post-doctoral training program, which offers outstanding training and mentorship, opportunities to present work internally and externally, career development support, and exposure to an environment focused on drug development and breakthrough discoveries.
Who You Are
Ph.D. in Chemical Biology, Chemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, or related field, with a proven track record of research accomplishments. Knowledge and hands-on experience in high-throughput screening, assay development, recombinant protein expression, molecular biology and biophysical techniques. Ability to formulate scientific questions and hypotheses. Ability to design, perform, interpret, and effectively communicate experiments to test these hypotheses. Must have advanced at least one key research project as evidenced by a first author publication (pre-print and/or accepted for publication). Independent scientist with outstanding communication skills, a strong passion and commitment to scientific discovery in cancer and chemical biology, and who works well with teams. Excited about identifying novel targets and molecular mechanisms for treatment of cancer.
Preferred Qualification
Prior experience working in industry settings as part of cross-functional teams. Prior experience in synthetic chemistry, including library design. Working knowledge of bioinformatics tools is a plus. The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco California is $100,000 to $106,500. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
