Job Description
Department Overview: The Employee Relations (ER) team works in partnership with TD Legal, Business Leadership, and Human Resources across all levels within TD to ensure employment risk is managed in accordance with TD’s risk profile. This department provides advice and expertise on complex employment matters and interfaces with Legal, Human Resources Leadership, HR Business Partners, HR Advice Partners, HR Investigators and other COEs. This team ensures employment matters involving discipline, dismissals, disability leaves, performance, accommodations and all third-party employee relations matters are managed in a fair and equitable manner while mitigating risk to the organization.
Job Description
The ER team provide solutions to the business on a variety of escalated employment matters. This role requires an advanced level of employee relations knowledge, a strong knowledge of our HR policies and programs, an ability to analyze risk, strategize and problem solving skills. In this role, the incumbent will have an opportunity to expand their knowledge in the following areas: increase their expertise in federal and provincial employment law, improve their ability to analyze risk and to develop an action plan to mitigate the risk in employment matters. The incumbent will also have an opportunity to participate in mediations, discoveries, and other litigation stages which may require negotiation directly with third parties to ensure the best outcome for the organization.
Job Description
Provide advice and counsel within their portfolio to HR Advice Partners, HR Business Partners, and the business on complex employment matters, providing strategies, options and risk assessment for both individual employee situations, as well as, special initiatives and broad business changes; Provide guidance and support with complex accommodation and disability matters; Provide guidance and support with HR Investigations; Work closely with Legal to represent and negotiate outcomes with third parties on behalf of TD. Third parties include, among others, lawyers, Employment & Social Development Canada (ESDC), Human Rights tribunals; Prepare strategy and participate in negotiation of files that are in an external forum; lawyers, Human Rights and Employment & Social Development Canada (ESDC) cases. Delivery of capability/education sessions; the ER team provides education, tools and resources and develops and delivers learning sessions to HR that are designed to address any knowledge gaps that are identified. This involves developing presentations or case studies and facilitating the delivery of these sessions. Work closely with HR and act as a trusted advisor across all aspects of the employment relationship to ensure business objectives and plans are delivered; Job Requirements This position requires a candidate with strong analytical and decision-making skills, an advanced knowledge of employment practices across TD, an in-depth knowledge of our HR policies and programs, and a strong ability to analyze various types of risk.
