As a Field Service Engineer [Customer Engineer] at Applied Materials, you serve as the direct liaison with customers, collaborating closely to install, maintain, and upgrade equipment. You'll use digital analytics for troubleshooting and apply basic diagnostic techniques to assess and address technical issues. Your responsibilities include performing preventative and corrective maintenance on various systems such as electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic, and gas systems. Additionally, you'll coordinate and communicate directly with customers to ensure smooth operations and exceptional service.
About the Role
As a Customer Engineer III, you'll play a critical role in supporting some of the world's most advanced semiconductor manufacturing environments. Working directly with customers and cross-functional teams, you'll help maximize equipment performance, uptime, productivity, and operational excellence through the installation, maintenance, and optimization of Applied Materials' leading-edge technologies. This role offers the opportunity to combine hands-on technical expertise with customer engagement and problem-solving while building a long-term career within a global technology leader. Many of our engineers grow into technical specialist, product support, leadership, installation and ramp, and operational management roles as they develop their careers with Applied Materials.
Key Responsibilities
Install, maintain, qualify, and upgrade Applied Materials equipment within customer manufacturing facilities. Diagnose and resolve complex equipment issues through a structured troubleshooting and root-cause approach, escalating when required. Support customers in achieving critical performance objectives related to equipment availability, productivity, and process stability. Collaborate with Senior Customer Engineers and customer stakeholders to understand technology roadmaps, operational priorities, and manufacturing challenges. Perform preventative and corrective maintenance across electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic, and gas systems. Lead and coordinate technical activities during equipment install, startup, qualification, and ramp phases. Train, coach, and mentor junior Customer Engineers, helping to build technical capability across the team. Build strong customer relationships through effective communication, responsiveness, and service delivery. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and share best practices to drive operational excellence. Ensure all activities are performed in accordance with Applied Materials' safety, quality, and environmental standards. Fulfil additional duties and project assignments as required.
