The Head of U.S.Public Funds and Taft Hartley will lead the firm’s client segment focused on public and union pension plans, retirement systems, sovereign/public entities, and related institutional pools of capital  The role will have responsibility for developing and executing the strategy to grow, retain, and deepen relationships.  The successful candidate will be a highly credible partner to public fund and Taft Hartley investment staff, CIOs, boards/trustees, investment consultant, and other key stakeholders, while working closely with internal teams to craft investment solutions that are relevant for these institutional client segments.

Key Responsibilities

Segment Strategy & Leadership Develop and execute the firm’s strategy for the public-funds segment, including target markets, client priorities, growth opportunities, and competitive positioning. Establish clear commercial objectives for asset growth and retention. Identify trends in the channel’s investing, including changes in asset allocation, that create opportunities or threats. Translate client insights into actionable product or capability development areas for the firm’s investment and/or product teams. Contribute to the global team’s institutional distribution strategy. Marketplace Relationships In tandem with the firm’s consultant relations team, develop strong relationship with investment consultants who are influential in the public fund and Taft Hartley market. Build the team’s reputation and visibility across the public funds and Taft Hartley investment community. Represent the organization at relevant industry conferences and investment forums. Work across Northern Trust to advance the One NT strategy. Organizational Leadership Lead, develop and retain a high-performing coverage team. Establish clear account ownership, business-development priorities, standards, and performance expectations. Coordinate resources critical for team success. Maintain disciplined oversight of pipeline, run-rate revenue, client concentrations, and business-at-risk. Ensure all activity operates within expected legal, regulatory, risk, and compliance frameworks.

Qualifications

10+ years of experience in significant senior-level institutional asset management distribution roles. Deep understanding of U.S. public pension and Taft Hartley plans. Established network with public fund/Taft Hartley CIOs, investment staff, trustees. Demonstrated track record of wining and retaining institutional mandates. Experience leading and mentoring senior institutional client teams. Salary Range: $164,600 - 288,000 USD Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
