Citi is looking for a Java Developer (Apps Dev Intermediate Programmer Analyst - C11) to join its Technology team and play a hands-on role in building, enhancing, and securing application systems that support global financial operations. In this intermediate-level position, you will contribute across the full software development lifecycle, from design and development through to testing and deployment, working within an Agile environment alongside experienced engineers and senior stakeholders. This role offers the autonomy to drive technical solutions while operating within one of the world's leading financial institutions.
Responsibilities
Design and develop application features and system enhancements using Java, Spring Boot, and Hibernate, applying programming best practices throughout. Build, consume, and maintain RESTful APIs to support integration across systems and services. Write and optimize SQL queries to interact with relational databases and support data-driven application functionality. Analyze existing applications to identify vulnerabilities and security gaps, then conduct testing and debugging to resolve them. Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, coding, testing, and production deployment, within an Agile framework. Implement and work with asynchronous programming patterns and messaging queues to support scalable, event-driven architectures. Act as a subject matter expert for senior stakeholders and team members, providing technical guidance and recommendations on application design and problem resolution. Evaluate business and technical decisions through a risk-aware lens, ensuring compliance with applicable policies, controls, and regulatory requirements. Required Qualifications & Skills 2 or more years of experience in an applications development role, with demonstrated ability to deliver production-quality code. Hands-on experience building applications with Java, Spring Boot, and Hibernate. Proficiency in designing and consuming RESTful APIs across distributed systems. Practical knowledge of relational databases and the ability to write and troubleshoot SQL queries. Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Proven ability to analyze complex problems, evaluate options, and implement effective technical solutions. Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver to deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience. Beneficial Skills & Qualifications Familiarity with asynchronous programming techniques and messaging queue technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ. Experience working within Agile development teams, including participation in sprint planning, code reviews, and retrospectives. Exposure to application security practices, including vulnerability assessment and secure coding standards. Background in the financial services industry or experience developing applications within a regulated environment.
