About this role

Join a fast-moving operations role where accuracy and sound judgement protect clients and the business. You will support cross-border foreign exchange flows end-to-end, working to tight service-level commitments and high volumes. You will lead complex investigations, manage reconciliations, and strengthen controls in line with India regulatory requirements. This role suits someone who is dependable, proactive, and motivated by solving problems quickly and well. As an Associate in Payments Operations, you will own end-to-end processing, controls, and investigations for trade and non-trade foreign exchange transactions. You will validate purpose codes and supporting documentation in line with Foreign Exchange Management Act and Reserve Bank of India requirements, as well as sanctions guidelines. You will lead investigations for rejects, returns, recalls, amendments, and beneficiary non-receipts using tracking and case tools. You will also complete nostro and vostro reconciliations, clear breaks, and maintain audit-ready evidence through maker-checker controls. You will drive continuous improvement through root-cause analysis and standard operating procedure updates.

Job responsibilities

Execute and validate cross-border foreign exchange payments, ensuring accurate booking and timely processing. Validate purpose codes, deal references, documentation, charges, foreign exchange rates, and tax-related impacts in line with applicable requirements. Review trade documentation for trade-related flows, including invoices, shipping/transport evidence, bill of entry and authorised dealer codes, export realisation documents, and underlying contracts. Track export realisation and import remittance timelines and support required reporting for current and capital account flows. Validate eligibility and limits under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme and other applicable Foreign Exchange Management Act provisions, escalating exceptions as needed. Lead investigations for rejects, returns, recalls, amendments, and beneficiary non-receipts, driving timely resolution with internal partners. Perform nostro and vostro reconciliations and end-of-day controls, clearing breaks and ageing items within agreed timelines. Maintain audit-ready evidence and apply maker-checker controls, escalating exceptions or suspicious activity per policy. Enforce operational risk controls and segregation of duties, including sanctions screening and name-list checks. Drive improvements by performing root-cause analysis, updating standard operating procedures, and sharing fixes that reduce repeat errors. Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, or Business. Minimum 5 years of experience in foreign exchange operations covering trade and non-trade flows within a bank or global financial institution. Strong knowledge of Foreign Exchange Management Act and Reserve Bank of India requirements for current and capital account transactions. Experience with purpose-code mapping, documentation standards, export realisation timelines, and Liberalised Remittance Scheme limits. Experience managing payment investigations using tracking and case tools. Experience performing nostro and vostro reconciliations, clearing breaks, and completing end-of-day controls. Strong stakeholder management and communication skills across treasury, trade operations, compliance, and client service teams. Strong control mindset, attention to detail, and sound judgement on when and how to escalate. Ability to deliver accurate outcomes under high volume and tight service-level commitments. Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist qualification (or in progress). Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; familiarity with Tableau and/or Alteryx. Experience improving processes through root-cause analysis and standard operating procedure enhancements.
