The CBS News Washington Assignment Desk is looking for a Broadcast Associate! This is someone the team relies on for research and administrative support throughout the week. The ideal candidate thrives under tight deadlines, multitasks well, and brings a positive attitude to a  fast-paced newsroom.

Responsibilities

Work with the newsroom team, including Assignment Editors, Producers, and Associate Producers, to gather news elements for breaking news, on-air packages, and digital stories.

Track wire services, social media, and other sources.

Research a range of topics extensively and adjust quickly to developing stories.

Flag and fact-check stories, and alert the Bureau team to new developments.

Log events including, but not limited to, Capitol Hill hearings, speeches, and press conferences.

Disseminate editorial notes to the news division.

Craft language for professional news posts across social media platforms.

Periodically field-produce events on Capitol Hill, the White House, and other special shoots and interviews.

Maintain up-to-date bureau contact and source lists.

Be available to work night and weekend schedules.

Qualifications

Robust written and verbal communication skills, with solid organizational and customer service skills.

Team player who is detail-oriented, able to multitask, and stays calm and proactive under tight deadlines.

A deep interest in Washington politics and policy, with an understanding of the three branches of government.

Proficiency with social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, X, Snapchat, Instagram, and YouTube.

Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related discipline preferred, with stellar editorial judgment.

Internship or comparable experience in broadcast, cable, or digital news a plus.

Knowledge of broadcast networks, stations, and markets a plus.
