About this Role The Master Trainer elevates Irby Construction’s training standards through high-impact, technical, compliance-based, and capability-based training that reflects the realities of utility construction. This position reinforces continuous improvement, operational excellence, and cultural leadership while helping ensure every team member returns home better than when they started.
This is a hands-on technical training position requiring significant field expertise in transmission and distribution power line construction. The successful candidate must bring practical utility construction knowledge and the credibility to train crews, apprentices, supervisors, and operational leaders in both classroom and active field environments. This is not a general soft-skills training position.
The Master Trainer must be fully bilingual in English and Spanish, with the ability to speak, understand, communicate, and deliver technical instruction effectively in both languages across multiple subject areas.
The Master Trainer upholds Irby training standards and serves in an advisory capacity for employee readiness and continuous improvement. The position recommends readiness for various certifications, while final certification decisions remain centralized, and is empowered to stop unsafe work during training, audits, or live coaching sessions. Master Trainers collaborate across regions to maintain consistency, technical accuracy, and quality across all curricula. What You'll Do
Technical Training Delivery – Priority: Deliver classroom and hands-on field training across multiple utility construction disciplines, with an emphasis on transmission and distribution power line construction , safe work practices, technical capability, and field execution. Deliver technical training in both English and Spanish , adapting instruction as necessary to ensure comprehension and consistent application across diverse crews. Conduct training focused on, but not limited to, Insulate & Isolate practices, Grounding & Bonding procedures, Capacity Model training, Incident Investigation processes, crew communication, and field leadership . Facilitate capability-based technical training clinics during live work based on observed crew needs, skill gaps, and operational requirements. Field Support – Priority: Provide hands-on coaching to crews, apprentices, supervisors, and field leadership in classroom and active field settings to reinforce safety, technical competency, and operational excellence. Evaluate field practices, identify training opportunities, and provide immediate coaching or corrective guidance when appropriate.
