As a Senior Software Engineer within the Broker and Employer (BnE) Portal team, you will play a key role in developing and supporting high-performance REST-based web services, core portal architectures, and critical system integrations. Our team is dedicated to advancing member, broker, and employer digital experiences by powering scalable API solutions and daily batch process architectures integrated with key enterprise platform services (such as Cirrus, Nice, EES, UeS, and Cer). In this role, you will innovate and build modern enterprise applications while leveraging cutting-edge AI tools and solution architectures to automate workflows, optimize integration efficiency, and elevate platform capabilities. You will enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable REST-based microservices and web API solutions for the Broker and Employer (BnE) Portal and external system integrations Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered solutions to address complex business challenges with an emphasis on the responsible use of AI Leverage enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows, automate tasks, optimize codebase quality, and drive continuous software delivery improvements Support and enhance daily batch job processes and enterprise system integrations (including Cirrus, Nice, EES, UeS, and Cer) Collaborate with cross-functional architecture, product, and business engineering teams to translate requirements into robust technical specifications Evaluate emerging technology trends and AI/ML capabilities to inform solution design, system optimization, and strategic technical innovation Perform end-to-end production support, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and root-cause analysis for high-volume portal application services You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear directions on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.

Required Qualifications

5+ years of software engineering experience developing enterprise RESTful web services and API architectures 3+ years of experience with relational database design, daily batch job processing, and backend system integrations 3+ years of experience working with enterprise portal integrations, web services security, and scalable cloud application development 3+ years of experience delivering software using Agile/Scrum development methodologies Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience) Prior experience with Broker and Employer healthcare domain platforms or health insurance administration portals Hands-on experience integrating with enterprise healthcare platform services (e.g., Cirrus, Nice, EES, UeS, Cer, or similar API platforms) Experience with CI/CD automated deployment pipelines, DevOps tools, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and microservices architecture Knowledge of prompt engineering, LLM integration APIs, or machine learning automation frameworks *All Telecommuters will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy.
