About this role
POSITION SUMMARY
The Kitchen Steward is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation throughout kitchen, storage, and back-of-house areas. This includes cleaning kitchen equipment, utensils, cookware, workstations, and food preparation areas, operating dishwashing and cleaning equipment, handling waste disposal, and ensuring all items are stored correctly. The successful candidate will follow hotel hygiene, food safety, and workplace health and safety standards while supporting smooth daily kitchen operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Clean, sanitize, and maintain kitchen equipment, utensils, cookware, dishes, glassware, and work areas to hotel standards. Operate dishwashing machines and other cleaning equipment safely and efficiently. Ensure clean equipment and supplies are properly stored and organized in designated areas. Receive, store, and rotate stock correctly, ensuring storage areas remain clean and orderly. Clean kitchen floors, walls, workstations, storage rooms, and back-of-house areas to maintain high hygiene standards. Handle waste disposal, recycling, and linen collection in accordance with hotel procedures. Use cleaning chemicals safely and correctly, following all safety guidelines and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements. Report equipment defects, maintenance concerns, hazards, accidents, or unsafe conditions to supervisors promptly. Support food safety and hygiene practices by following HACCP and hotel sanitation procedures. Attend departmental briefings and complete assigned duties efficiently and professionally. Maintain personal grooming and hygiene standards in line with hotel expectations. Work collaboratively with colleagues to support smooth kitchen and food service operations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Positive attitude and willingness to learn and develop new skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and hygiene. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Physically fit and capable of performing manual tasks, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and standing for extended periods. Flexible and willing to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as required. Ability to follow instructions, procedures, and safety standards. Reliable, punctual, and motivated to contribute to team success. Awareness of food safety, hygiene, and workplace safety practices is advantageous.
