Job Overview
Qualcomm is seeking a highly motivated Staff Engineer to join the IMS Software team responsible for developing next-generation voice and multimedia communication solutions for mobile, automotive, IoT, and XR platforms. The candidate will drive architecture, design, implementation, debugging, and commercialization of IMS features including VoLTE, VoNR, VoWiFi, Emergency Services, SMS over IMS, Multi-SIM solutions, and operator-specific enhancements across Qualcomm modem platforms. The role requires strong technical leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and ownership of complex software deliverables from concept through commercial deployment.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership Lead end-to-end design and development of IMS software features across signaling, media, and telephony domains. Drive architecture reviews, design discussions, and technical decision-making for complex IMS enhancements. Provide technical leadership to engineers across multiple product lines and programs. Mentor junior and senior engineers in IMS protocols, modem architecture, debugging methodologies, and software development best practices. Feature Development & Delivery Own the complete feature lifecycle including requirements analysis, design, implementation, validation, commercialization, and customer support. Deliver operator-specific and customer-driven IMS requirements. Lead development of advanced IMS capabilities including: VoLTE VoNR VoWiFi SMS over IMS Emergency Calling / E911 / NG-eCall IMS Registration Enhancements Multi-SIM and Data-Switching Solutions EPS Fallback and Call Continuity Features Ensure compliance with 3GPP, GSMA, carrier, and regulatory requirements. System Integration & Debugging Work closely with Modem, NAS, RRC, MMCP, Telephony, Android Framework, Data Services, and Carrier Testing teams. Analyze and resolve complex customer-reported issues involving: SIP signaling RTP media Registration failures Handover and mobility scenarios Emergency call procedures Network interoperability issues Lead root-cause analysis and drive closure of field and lab issues. Cross-Functional Collaboration Interface directly with system architects, product management, verification teams, carrier certification teams, and customers. Drive technical reviews and project planning activities across global engineering teams. Act as an IMS subject matter expert for product commercialization and customer engagements.
