Job Description
Summary Ares Management Luxembourg, a regulated AIFM, is looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our Valuation team at Assistant Vice President level, depending on the candidate’s experience and qualifications. The role will work closely with the Conducting Officer responsible for valuation, with an appropriate level of autonomy and responsibility for key aspects of the Luxembourg valuation process. The ideal candidate will combine strong valuation expertise with sound judgement and the ability to work effectively across multiple stakeholders and functions. The individual should also bring a continuous improvement mindset, with an interest in leveraging process enhancements, data and technology to support greater efficiency and scalability across the Luxembourg platform as it continues to grow. Primary Functions and Essential Responsibilities Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Identify and contribute to enhancements to valuation processes, controls, analytics and reporting, including the use of data and technology to improve efficiency, consistency and scalability across the Luxembourg platform. Review and independently challenge valuation models, methodologies, key assumptions and supporting documentation, particularly for complex and illiquid investments, and develop independent views on material valuation matters. Prepare valuation materials and analysis for valuation committees, the Executive Committee, Board of Managers and other relevant governance forums. Be actively involved in the Luxembourg valuation framework and periodic valuation processes across funds and structures, covering multiple alternative asset classes and ensuring alignment with Ares policies, fund documentation and applicable regulatory requirements. Work closely with key functions across Ares, including Portfolio Management, Finance, Risk, Legal, Compliance and Operations, contributing a valuation perspective to cross-functional initiatives and the development of practical and integrated solutions across the Luxembourg platform. Support new business initiatives, products and structures by assessing valuation considerations and helping ensure appropriate processes and controls are incorporated from the outset. Coordinate with external auditors, fund administrators and independent valuation firms, supporting and, where appropriate, leading discussions on valuation matters and related deliverables.
Education
BS/BA or equivalent degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance or a related discipline. Professional qualifications such as CFA, CAIA, ACA/ACCA or equivalent would be considered an advantage.
Experience
Required 7+ years of relevant valuation experience within alternative asset management, valuation advisory, audit or a related financial services environment. Strong knowledge of valuation methodologies applicable to alternative and illiquid assets, with experience across Credit, Private Equity, Real Estate and/or Infrastructure strategies. In-depth knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards, including AIFMD valuation requirements. Practical experience with and familiarity with CSSF expectations regarding the valuation of less liquid and illiquid assets would be highly desirable.
