Role
Description The Cloud Network Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and evolving Carrier’s global cloud networking strategy across AWS, GCP, and Azure. This role defines the patterns, guardrails, and automation that ensure secure, resilient, and performant connectivity between cloud environments, data centers, and external partners. The architect drives standardization through Infrastructure as Code and collaborates with Platform Engineering, Security, and Networking teams to ensure scalable network operations that align with enterprise policies and compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Architect and implement multi-cloud networking solutions, including CloudWAN, Transit Gateway, Network Connectivity Center, VPC/VNet designs, VPN, interconnects, and hybrid connectivity with on-prem data centers. Define and enforce enterprise network standards, IP address management strategy, and routing governance across AWS, GCP, Azure. Design and automate network deployments using Terraform and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions). Lead architecture reviews and provide technical direction on network segmentation, zero-trust design, and traffic flow optimization. Collaborate with Security teams to ensure compliance with network security policies and implement security controls such as firewalls, NACLs, and route filters. Establish monitoring, telemetry, and observability for network performance and reliability. Serve as a subject matter expert to guide platform and product teams in adopting standardized networking patterns. Partner with external vendors and internal teams on large-scale network modernization initiatives and connectivity optimization efforts.
Required Qualifications
8+ years of experience in network architecture or engineering, with at least 3 years focused on cloud networking (AWS and/or GCP). Strong understanding of BGP, route propagation, and hybrid cloud connectivity models (Direct Connect, Interconnect, VPN). Hands-on experience designing and managing AWS Transit Gateway, Cloud WAN, and GCP Network Connectivity Center. Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and version control (GitHub). Solid understanding of network security, segmentation, and encryption technologies. Proven ability to document, communicate, and govern complex network designs across multiple teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with multi-cloud and global network topologies spanning multiple business units and geographies. Familiarity with SD-WAN or network automation platforms. Exposure to Cloud Governance frameworks such as AWS Control Tower or GCP Organization Policies. Professional certifications such as AWS Advanced Networking Specialty, CCNP/CCIE, or GCP Network Engineer. Experience mentoring engineers and influencing architectural direction across large enterprise organizations.
