Google's Payments Legal team's mission is to help Google make payments simple and safe across Google and the digital ecosystem. We are looking for a bright and collaborative lawyer to join our team in Chicago, IL, and contribute to this exciting and rapidly evolving space. In this role, you will be a key advisor on a wide range of commercial matters. You will leverage your expertise in negotiating and drafting complex commercial agreements to support the growth and expansion of Google's payment offerings throughout the world. This role offers the opportunity to work on legal issues in a global technology company. Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Discuss, draft, and review a wide variety of commercial agreements related to Google's payment products and services, including partnerships with financial institutions, payment processors, merchants, and technology providers. Provide practical and legal advice to product, engineering, and business teams on legal risks and compliance obligations related to payments. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product development, engineering, business development, finance, and marketing, to ensure legal considerations are integrated into product development and business strategy. Stay up-to-date on relevant laws, regulations, and industry trends in the payments space. Develop and maintain standard form agreements, legal templates, and internal policies. Assist with the resolution of legal disputes and manage external counsel as needed. Contribute to the development and delivery of legal training and guidance to internal stakeholders.

Minimum qualifications: JD, LL.B., equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience. Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state in which the position is located. 3 years of attorney-level experience in government, in-house, or at a law firm. Experience in commercial transactions, privacy negotiations, or fintech. Preferred qualifications: Knowledge of privacy, consumer protection, antitrust, agreement, content moderation/safety, or IP law issues in a technology context.
