Software Development Manager, FinTech General Ledger

We're looking for an experienced Software Development Manager to lead one of the engineering teams responsible for Amazon's General Ledger (GL) and financial close systems — the mission-critical technology that accurately accounts for approximately 900 million transactions per month across the entire company. This is a rare opportunity to lead at the center of a multi-year financial transformation: re-architecting how Amazon runs its General Ledger and closes its books, and building the next generation of these systems for 2028 and beyond. You'll lead a team of software engineers who own critical parts of the close lifecycle — spanning sub-ledger integration, journal and ledger processing, and close orchestration — delivering high-impact automation for our Finance and Global Business Services (FGBS) customers. As close timelines compress and expectations for accuracy and speed rise, your team's work directly shapes the confidence Amazon has in its financial numbers, at scale. This role is defined by change. Amazon's General Ledger is being re-built and its surrounding processes redesigned end to end — close calendars are shortening, manual touchpoints are being engineered out, and the target-state architecture is being built now. You will operate with significant autonomy to set technical strategy, make architectural decisions that carry across the current and future state, and lead your team through the transition without compromising the reliability of a system that cannot fail during close. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise in large-scale distributed systems, preferably a background in financial or ERP systems, and a proven ability to lead teams through ambiguous, high-stakes transformation while keeping production healthy. You work backwards from customer needs, you're comfortable when both the business problem and the technology approach require invention, and you can hold a long-term vision while shipping incremental value every sprint. You'll partner closely with finance, controllership, product, and technology stakeholders to translate complex accounting requirements into scalable, automation-first solutions.
