Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer specializing in Low Voltage (LV) systems to join our Electrical Engineering practice. This role is a key technical contributor within the team — independently completing primary design elements for LV building services projects, applying established methods and engineering judgement to solve moderately complex problems, and beginning to take on coordination and client-facing responsibilities. The Senior Engineer works with general guidance from Principal Engineers and the Associate Technical Director on new project types but is expected to manage their own workload autonomously on familiar scopes. This role includes mentoring entry-level engineers, performing self-checks and quality reviews on their own deliverables, and actively contributing to improvements in team processes and standards.
Responsibilities
Independently produce primary LV design elements across different stages of the project, including load schedules, distribution board and switchboard layouts, circuit design, and power distribution single-line diagrams. Perform LV calculations to established procedures: cable sizing, voltage drop, short-circuit fault level, protection coordination, and diversity calculations in accordance with applicable national/regional standards. Design LV containment systems (cable trays, conduit routes) in coordination with architectural and structural layouts. Prepare emergency power design elements: UPS system specifications, generator sizing inputs, ATS/changeover logic, and critical load schedules. Contribute to ELV system interfaces within LV projects, including power supply provisions for CCTV, access control, fire alarm panels, and ICT equipment. Apply standard procedures and previously developed methods to solve design problems; propose modifications to standard approaches when new problems are encountered, escalating to Principal Engineer where novel solutions require validation. Perform a thorough self-check of all work products prior to submitting to senior reviewers, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance with the applicable design standards and project-specific requirements. Carry out technical quality reviews of deliverables produced by entry-level engineers assigned to shared project tasks, documenting review outcomes in the project record in accordance with team QA procedures. Prepare project deliverables — including design reports, specifications, drawings, and equipment schedules — to a standard suitable for Principal Engineer review and client issue. Maintain awareness of and compliance with budget and schedule commitments for assigned design tasks, flagging risks proactively to the project
