Job Title: Field Engineer, Specialist Job Code: 43913 Job Location: Rochester, NY (Onsite) Job Schedule: 5/8   Job Description The Field Engineer is responsible for the hands-on installation, mechanical integration, configuration, troubleshooting, testing, and sustainment of tactical communication systems supporting military and civilian customers worldwide. This role combines technical expertise, strong mechanical aptitude , problem-solving ability, and customer engagement to ensure systems are safely installed, properly integrated, and operating according to mission requirements and customer needs. Field Engineers frequently operate in dynamic field environments and support a wide range of platforms including tactical vehicles, ships, facilities, towers, shelters, and deployed operational environments. The work requires the ability to work with both electronic systems and the physical equipment that supports them. This is a hands-on engineering position. Successful candidates must be mechanically inclined and comfortable working with tools, hardware, cabling, mounting systems, equipment racks, brackets, connectors, and other physical components. Candidates should be able to understand how equipment physically fits, mounts, connects, and operates within a larger system and be capable of identifying and correcting mechanical issues encountered during installation or troubleshooting. The successful candidate is an adaptable, self-motivated professional who can work independently, build trusted customer relationships, and represent the organization with professionalism and accountability. This position requires extensive travel, strong technical and mechanical aptitude, and the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance. Essential Functions Install, configure, integrate, test, troubleshoot, and maintain tactical communications systems and associated equipment. Perform hands-on mechanical installation and integration of communication equipment, including mounting, securing, routing, connecting, aligning, and adjusting equipment and associated hardware. Use hand tools and basic mechanical tools safely and effectively to install, remove, modify, and maintain equipment. Identify and troubleshoot mechanical installation issues such as equipment fit, mounting, alignment, hardware, cable routing, connector access, structural limitations, and physical interference. Understand how mechanical, electrical, and electronic components interact as part of an integrated communication system. Read and interpret mechanical drawings, installation drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, equipment layouts, and technical documentation. Integrate and install communication systems into tactical vehicles, facilities, ships, and other operational platforms. Support domestic and international customer deployments and operational field activities. Travel frequently in support of customer and program requirements; travel may exceed 50% depending on operational needs. Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues in field environments with limited supervision.
