About you and this role We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Electrical Engineer in Barry, South Wales (United Kingdom).   In this role, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of electrical systems across one of the world's largest and most complex silicone manufacturing facilities. Leveraging your technical expertise and problem-solving skills, you will provide specialist support to Operations and Maintenance teams, helping to ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, engineering, and industry standards while driving asset reliability and operational excellence. You will identify and resolve complex electrical challenges, collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, and champion initiatives that deliver sustainable improvements in safety, reliability, and performance. This is an opportunity to make a tangible impact in a dynamic manufacturing environment where safety, innovation, and continuous improvement are at the forefront. Additionally, this role offers you the opportunity to develop into a subject matter expert in Hazardous Area Classification, Electrostatics, and ATEX directives.

Responsibilities

Provide expert technical support for equipment failures, root cause analysis, and reliability improvement initiatives. Offer electrical engineering input to projects—including design reviews, operability assessments, and commissioning support. Develop, maintain, and implement standards and procedures for electrical system design and maintenance. Ensure electrical distribution protection settings are accurate and effective for operational reliability.  Maintain and update all electrical engineering documentation for the site.  Share technical knowledge within Dow through technical networks and forums. Ensure effective training, certification, and validation of internal and third party personnel performing energized electrical work.  Support site implementation of Dow’s Global Electrical Safe Work Standards in collaboration with EH&S Delivery.  Monitor and ensure site compliance with all industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements. Conduct or support Electrical Safety & Reliability Assessments (ESRA).  Support major maintenance events such as plant shutdowns.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master's degree in electrical engineering  5+ years of electrical engineering experience in operational, high-hazard industrial facilities (preferably chemical or petrochemical, COMAH sites) is required. Chartered Engineer status or working towards this is an advantage. Your Skills Strong project leadership and execution capability. Strong experience in troubleshooting and fault finding on electrical equipment. Hands-on experience with high-voltage switchgear UPS systems and generator backup power Electrical protection systems. Experience delivering technical training or presentations. Knowledge of major regulatory frameworks such as Electricity at Work Regulations, DSEAR, ATEX, and BS7671. Experience supporting major maintenance events such as site shutdowns. Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to a wide range of stakeholders, fostering collaboration across Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams.   Additional notes No relocation/visa support is
