As a Senior Tax Accountant, you'll take on complex accounting and analysis work under general direction, playing a key role in our daily and monthly accounting processes to ensure accurate, complete financial records. You'll also help maintain compliance with SOX procedures and controls, ensuring documentation stays current and audit-ready. Along the way, you'll drive customer satisfaction and continuously look for ways to improve our processes. Furthermore, you will ensure duties are performed in accordance with all regulatory compliance obligations. Job Responsibilities
Participates in the preparation and filing of tax returns, including creating, gathering, analyzing, and maintaining sufficient records to support the monthly tax accrual and tax return. Maintains tax fixed assets schedules and supporting workpapers. Supports and educates other departments on tax matters, consistently applying industry knowledge to analysis, identifying key stakeholders, and leveraging insights to drive cross-functional solutions. Identifies and resolves more complex tax issues or opportunities with assistance, using strategic thinking and critical reasoning to create solutions that drive value for the business and team. Leads or consults on special projects within the tax department, collaborating with relevant stakeholders to achieve business objectives and driving projects to completion with appropriate urgency. Complies with internal controls and actively updates and tests SOX 404 procedures. May act as the primary point of contact between the company and the taxing authority. Collaborates with external tax advisors to support tax compliance and ongoing business activities, using analysis to provide cross-functional feedback that supports and drives business decisions. Keeps up-to-date on current tax law changes, pronouncements, and issues. Performs and enhances tax policies, procedures, controls, and documentation—identifying opportunities for improvement, incorporating stakeholder feedback, and staying current with industry standards to share knowledge with others. Responds to requests from management and other departments, representing the tax department at company meetings while articulating customer needs and working collaboratively to exceed expectations. Leads by example, providing training and guidance to less experienced staff, cross-training with team members, and assisting with the development of junior staff. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
BA/BS in Business, Finance, or Accounting or equivalent combination of education and/or experience 3+ years of directly relevant accounting experience Strong understanding of GAAP and technical application Strong ability to effectively analyze and report on financial information Strong verbal and written skills Strong PC skills (including Excel, Word, Access) Desired Qualifications
Licensed Certified Public Accountant Master of Taxation or other advanced degree Utility taxation experience Experience with OneSource/GoSystem RS, Power BI, Alteryx, RIA Checkpoint
