Department: Utilization Quality Coordinator Address: 10401 Hospital Dr Clinton, Maryland 20735 Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7am - 4:30pm Varies to meeting clinical rounding and educational needs This position requires travel approximately 4 days per week General Summary of Position Assists in managing quality safety clinical care workforce development and operational projects for ambulatory practice sites within the MedStar Medical Group (MMG) Quality Safety and Education (QSE) department and in collaboration with other ambulatory entities. Provides a wide range of services to multiple practices with diversity of specialties patient populations and patient care including but not limited to coaching for safety gathering needed information collecting and reporting data for outcomes and training practice managers clinical and non-clinical associates. Guides practice to implement quality safety and operational projects. Clinical responsibilities include direct care associate training clinical competency assessment of medical assistants (MAs) senior medical assistants (SMAs) technicians and other allied health associates safety event reviews and assessment of clinical programs and initiatives. Participates in new program development learner need assessments and education planning. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental regulations and accreditation standards. Coordinates and assists practices with ambulatory entity and/or systemwide quality and safety-related programs. Assesses practice sites observes associate skills and workflow and provides training for improvement. Adheres to trains reinforces and upholds all MedStar Health safety best practices such as hand hygiene patient identification universal protocol CLIA lab and safe medication and vaccine practices. Rounds at the sites for quality and safety audits. Uses Purposeful Rounding techniques and tools to provide objective measured scoring; provides practice leaders with opportunities to improve. Disseminates tips and tools for effective action planning and implementation. Completes follow-up rounding for sustainability using objective scoring to measure improvement. Is accountable for collecting data monthly and reporting findings to QSE leaders; supports data collection for other QSE initiatives. Assists with and trains MAs to create a safe efficient practice environment through ensuring policies procedures and best practices are followed. Upholds and reinforces High Reliability safe learning space and Just Culture by training all associates using crucial conversations positive approach and constructive feedback techniques. Teaches SMAs and preceptors to use the same techniques when training others. Reinforces HRO principles when working with leaders. Assists in development and adherence of systemwide ambulatory goals objectives policies and procedures through engagement in sprint teams committees and councils. Represents subject matter expertise in program development by combining the perspective of a clinical MA with observation and knowledge of practice operations and current state of MMG. Highly knowledgeable in: environment of care; infection prevention; point of care testing; medication and vaccine safety including PPID/co-verification; clinical skills; recognizing and responding to clinical emergencies; and onboarding and training new associates. Trains leaders and associates how to round and assess their own practice. Attends scheduled meetings including but not limited to staff meetings training OSHA point of care testing falls prevention educator and MAQC huddles orientation/workshop development practice staff meetings and others as directed.
