Join our team at Rivian's Propulsion Headquarters in Tustin, CA, as part of the Battery Product Excellence Team, and lead the charge in identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions for vehicle-level failures, ensuring our customers have an exceptional Rivian experience.
Responsibilities
Develop an expertise in the controlled interactions between the Battery Management System (BMS) & the rest of the vehicle; become familiar with the battery measurement and controls architecture Lead diagnostic analyses to determine root cause of HV Energy Storage System (ESS) related failures at the customer level through BMS and vehicle-level data analysis Support battery production and vehicle general assembly, through end of line failure data analysis, traveling to support critical cross-functional issues on-site when necessary Partner with Field Reliability, Field Service, Failure Analysis, Battery Production, Plant Quality, Battery Remanufacturing, and all relevant battery and vehicle control design teams to ensure alignment on cross-functional issues and necessary mitigation actions Develop and propose improvements to the BMS and vehicle diagnostic strategies to mitigate customer impact and streamline the field service failure analysis process Collaborate with the HV battery platform team responsible for new product architecture development (fusing, HV switchgear, HV Electrical Safety, and overcurrent protection) to integrate field-related lessons learned and optimize next-generation designs Qualifications 3+ years of work experience in Battery/Automotive/Aerospace/related industries, with significant experience in diagnostic engineering or failure analysis A bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline Knowledge of battery behavior and high voltage safety Knowledge of battery sensing technology and battery management architectural design Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with focus on rapid root cause identification and corrective action implementation Experience creating requirements from the ground up, using engineering analysis, with a strong focus on diagnostics Excellent problem-solving skills; reliant on core engineering principles and common sense, with a proven track record in root cause analysis Experience with vehicle communication bus diagnostic tools Strong communication skills verbally, written, and through presentation to communicate complex technical issues to diverse audiences Experience with issue tracking tools (Jira, Bugzilla, etc.) Pay Disclosure The salary range for this role is USD 121,500 - 151,900 for California based applicants. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, and organizational needs. The successful candidate may be eligible for annual performance bonus and equity awards.
