Organizational Overview: Our Platform Engineering organization comprises of Database experts and automation engineers who focus on enabling strategies to enhance customer and partner experience and optimize business performance through database platform development and management cutting edge automation technologies such as Terraform, Jenkins and Ansible.
Role
Summary/Purpose: Cloud Database Automation Engineer role will be responsible for projects to design, enhance or add new functionality to Synchrony Data platforms (Databases), as well as all operational support activities. Provide technical oversight, architecture, design expertise and guidance, interdepartmental coordination, and vendor direction for Synchrony Database Engineering and automation efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Implement infrastructure as code for various database platforms Perform Software Configuration Management (SCM) for databases Implement automation of database operations and migration Implement monitoring and logging solutions for different database technology stacks or container orchestration platforms Have general cloud ops knowledge with at least one provider, private or public, such as attached volume lifecycle, auto scaling, cloud-config, security, instance lifecycle, etc Implement Database automation in AWS from build to day-to-day support. Required Skills & Knowledge: Experience working on or leading teams performing systems automation and integration (ideally leveraging an agile methodology / lean techniques) Competence in using scripting + programming languages to automate frequently executed activities 3+ years Public Cloud (AWS RDS) experience to instant and configure up databases for mission critical, highly available and high throughput application 3+ years Expert knowledge of Linux / Unix / Windows systems 5+ years’ experience as a Senior DBA or Database automation Engineer; Expertise in designing/configuring mission critical, highly available and high throughput Databases Experience with production systems and dealing with production issues A clear understanding of cloud service and deployment model Desired Skills & Knowledge: Database experience with RDS, PostgreSQL, Cassandra. MySQL, Oracle, DynamoDB or DocumentDB Experience in streaming service such as Kinesis Scripting Proficiency in Terraform, Python and Shell Experience in migrating Database from on-prem to public cloud Responsible for architecting, implementing, and maintaining automation tools to reduce time and complexity of operations and development tasks Collaborate with others to troubleshoot and resolve escalated production issues Establish and consult on best practices and standard operating procedures for development, deployment, support, break-fix, and systems management Deploy and support automation systems and tooling in a 24x7 production environment Assess usage and utilization trends to make appropriate design and implementation recommendations towards scaling our architecture AWS Cloud
