The Opportunity
Netflix is looking for an attorney who will be responsible for a wide array of development, acquisition (licensing), and production matters related to Netflix’s content programming. The successful candidate will structure, negotiate, and draft agreements to commission, develop, and produce local programming with various content partners, and should be extremely comfortable counseling internal stakeholders and making decisions that have both legal and business impacts.
The position is based in Seoul, South Korea.
Responsibilities
* Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of agreements, including but not limited to:
* Content license agreements across various deal structures (e.g., exclusive/non-exclusive, co-production, distribution)
* Development and production agreements, covering talent, crew, and production service arrangements
* Underlying IP agreements
* Above-the-Line (ATL) agreements, including those with writers, directors, producers, and key talent
* Music contracts, including composer, performer, music director, or producer agreements, master use and synchronization license agreements, songwriter agreements, soundtrack release and distribution agreements, record company and music publishing waivers
* Act as a trusted business partner; focus on delivering pragmatic, business-first solutions that drive growth, moving beyond traditional, risk-averse legal management
* Conduct a thorough legal analysis on issues arising throughout the lifecycle of content from development and production to distribution and exploitation, such as identifying risks, ensuring compliance, advising on clearance (including music clearance), and proposing practical solutions
* Provide clear, solution-oriented legal guidance to external production partners, helping them navigate contractual obligations and regulatory requirements
* Maintain close alignment with multiple internal cross-functional partners, including Content, Production, Marketing/PR teams, to ensure consistency and efficiency in deal execution and business operations
* Manage, maintain, and update various legal templates, ensuring they reflect current business needs, legal standards, and industry best practices
Qualifications
* Licensed attorney in good standing in at least one jurisdiction. We typically see candidates with 7+ years of experience in this role, though we welcome candidates with fewer years who have demonstrated the depth and scope needed to handle this role independently
* Candidates with experience in media, entertainment, or intellectual property law, either at a law firm or as in-house counsel within the media/entertainment industry highly preferred
* Full professional fluency in both Korean and English, with excellent drafting and negotiation skills in both languages
* Strong business acumen combined with exceptional analytical abilities and sound judgment. We value practical, solution-oriented thinking that balances legal risk with business objectives
* Demonstrated ability to work proactively, independently, and reliably while managing multiple matters under tight deadlines
* Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to build strong cross-functional team relationships
Inclusion is a Netflix value and we strive to host a meaningful interview experience for all candidates. If you want an accommodation/adjustment for a disability or any other reason during the hiring process, please send a request to your recruiting partner.
