Discover Impactful Work As an Electrical Engineer II at Thermo Fisher Scientific, you'll be part of a collaborative team developing advanced instrumentation that helps make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. You'll work on projects ranging from laboratory equipment to analytical instruments, collaborating with R&D teams to design and optimize electrical and electronic systems. Your role will involve hands-on work with circuit design, prototyping, testing, and documentation while receiving mentorship to grow your technical expertise. Location This is a fully onsite role based at our Tewksbury, MA.  The R&D group at the Tewksbury site is responsible for the design and maintenance of Thermo Fisher's lineup of hand-held, chemical identification analyzers (Raman and IR spectrometers) and elemental analyzers (XRF spectrometers).  This position is a critical resource in the new product development and sustaining activities requiring extensive experience in circuit and PCB design, both digital and analog.

Responsibilities

Work within a multi-functional engineering team to bring new products to market Focus on design efficiencies, risk mitigation, cost reduction and overall product quality High speed digital design (microcontroller and FPGA) and ability to assess PCB layout fidelity Analog circuit design (power conversion, low noise signal amplification and conversion, circuit impedance, motor control) Design for EMC and ESD compliance (IEC61010) Employ electrical test instruments to perform validation testing and root cause analysis of issues on small form factor PCB designs Provide ownership of projects and tasks and take initiative in addressing technical challenges Assist in the improvement and implementation of product design processes Keys to Success Education Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field Experience Experience with analog and digital circuit design, circuit simulation, and SPICE modeling Proficiency with circuit design and simulation tools Experience with communication protocols such as USB, RS232, Ethernet, and Modbus FPGA design and HDL programming experience preferred Strong foundation in electrical and electronics engineering fundamentals Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Knowledge of testing protocols and ability to use standard test equipment (oscilloscopes, signal analyzers, voltmeters) Familiarity with regulatory requirements (EMC, safety standards) Basic programming knowledge (C/C++) preferred Strong communication and collaboration skills Strong documentation skills for technical specifications and design artifacts Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities Ability to read, create and modify electrical schematics and PCB layouts Ability to perform component selection and BOM management Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment Compensation and Benefits The salary range estimated for this position based in Massachusetts is $75,900.00–$88,000.00.
