About this role
Description This position requires two in-office days per week for candidates who reside within 50 miles of Columbus, OH; Seattle, WA; Boston, MA; Portsmouth, NH; Indianapolis, IN; or Plano, TX.
As a member of the Agile team, the Product Owner, Personal Lines Pricing represents the voice of the customer, defining and prioritizing the backlog to deliver the highest business value. Within Personal Lines, this role owns the pricing technology backlog that governs the flow of data into and out of the rating engine — ensuring the right inputs reach rating (including derivation of new fields) and the right outputs are delivered downstream to policy, billing, and reporting systems. This person sits at the intersection of data science and product, translating pricing models and rating algorithms built by data scientists and state-specific requirements defined by Product into clear, buildable technology requirements.
Core responsibilities
Owns and prioritizes the product backlog, writing clear, actionable user stories that translate rating and data requirements — including new field derivations — into technical specifications, and ensures rating output is validated and delivered correctly to downstream systems. Partners with data scientists to translate evolving pricing models and rating algorithms into data requirements, and with Product to ensure state-specific and regulatory rating requirements are met. Sets priorities and participates in quarterly planning, builds the product roadmap, and communicates vision, priorities, and expected value to stakeholders each iteration. Works daily with the agile team to clarify requirements, remove roadblocks, and resolve issues — including data discrepancies, mapping issues, or rating output errors. Monitors product health and analyzes feasibility and cost-of-delay for planned changes, balancing long- and short-term priorities. Serves as the key liaison between data science, product, and engineering to sequence pricing technology changes against business and regulatory timelines.
Ideal candidates will have
A working understanding of Jira — able to navigate the tool, locate and update tickets, and track them through their workflow. (Required) Personal Lines insurance experience. (Required) Product Owner experience representing the voice of the customer on an agile team — owning and prioritizing a product backlog, writing clear and actionable user stories, and translating business needs into buildable technical requirements. AI usage experience highly preferred — the ability to apply AI tools to improve speed and quality across day-to-day product work.
Qualifications
Knowledge of Agile development methodologies and IT project management as typically acquired through a Bachelors` degree in relevant field (business, computer science, humanities etc.) and a minimum of 3 to 5 years direct experience with agile teams as well as 7 years in business, technology, or consulting. Able to depict and explain the importance of complex ideas, issues and designs to varied audiences; educate SBU/department(s) on business vision and plan and the impact of change. Able to influence a diverse group of stakeholders; strong leadership skills. Able to make difficult and quick decisions daily. Strong problem solver with demonstrated ability to lead a team to push the solutions and progress. Experience in the insurance industry preferred. Knowledge of relevant products and portfolio preferred. Strong experimental mindset to drive innovation amongst uncertainty.
