About this role
Shape Your World At Alcoa, you will become an essential part of our purpose: to turn raw potential into real progress. The way we see it, every Alcoan is a work-shaper, team-shaper, idea-shaper & world-shaper. At Alcoa, you will become an essential part of our purpose: to turn raw potential into real progress. As we continue to lead the way in mine rehabilitation and sustainable land management, we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced environmental professional to shape the future of rehabilitation performance across our Western Australian operations.
About the Role
At Alcoa, rehabilitation is about more than restoring landscapes. It is about continually improving how we design, deliver, monitor and embed rehabilitation practices to achieve consistent, evidence-based outcomes across our operations. We are seeking an experienced environmental leader for the newly created role of Principal Rehabilitation Improvement. This role will lead a portfolio of improvement initiatives that translate rehabilitation strategy, research, monitoring insights and operational learnings into practical changes embedded across both Mining and Refinery rehabilitation programs. Reporting to the Regional Environment Manager - Rehabilitation, you will provide regional leadership across rehabilitation standards, technical studies, remediation planning, change management and operational integration. You will identify and lead improvement initiatives, strengthen governance and support the consistent delivery of agreed rehabilitation outcomes. Working across Rehabilitation Performance, Mining, Refineries, Closure, Planning, Approvals, Research, GIS and operational teams, you will connect technical evidence with operational practice. A key focus will be ensuring improvement initiatives move beyond standalone studies and are translated into practical standards, procedures, specifications and execution guidance. This is a rare opportunity to influence the future direction of rehabilitation across Alcoa's Australian operations. You will help shape standards, drive innovation, solve complex rehabilitation challenges and ensure new learnings are embedded into operational practice across both Mining and Refinery environments. The role may be based in Perth, or the WA Mining Hub in Pinjarra, with regular collaboration across Alcoa's Australian operations. You'll also enjoy a Monday to Friday roster with a paid day off every four weeks, supporting flexibility and a healthy work-life balance. Key responsibilities include: Lead the strategic management and stewardship of Alcoa's rehabilitation estate, ensuring long-term rehabilitation outcomes and handback readiness. Drive rehabilitation handback planning, including prioritisation of handback areas, development of test cases, and preparation of supporting submissions and evidence. Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators, land managers, Traditional Owners and other stakeholders to support land-use planning and rehabilitation outcomes. Identify and manage rehabilitation estate risks, remediation opportunities and continuous improvement initiatives to support successful long-term outcomes. Provide leadership and coordination across multidisciplinary teams, partnering with rehabilitation, closure, planning, approvals, government affairs and technical specialists. Deliver governance, reporting and decision support to ensure rehabilitation estate activities are aligned with strategic objectives, regulatory requirements and future land-use commitments.
