The Survey Technician (Instrument Person / Operator) works directly under the supervision of the Survey Party Chief (Crew Chief) to support heavy highway construction operations at the Golden Glades Interchange. This role focuses on operating precision surveying equipment, collecting accurate geospatial field data, and executing construction layouts critical to the expansion and modification of complex roadways, bridges, and tolling infrastructure. Holds level or stadia rod at designated points to assist in determining elevations and laying out stakes for mapmaking, construction, land, and other surveys. Place stakes at designated points and drives them into ground at specified elevation. Cuts and clears brush and trees or other possible obstructions from line of survey. Measures distance between survey points with steel or cloth tape or surveyor's chain. Marks measuring points with markers, paint sticks, tacks, scratches or stakes. Load/unload equipment and prepare for daily jobs. Help calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of terrain or current installations. Determine longitudes and latitudes of important features and boundaries in survey areas using theodolites, transits, levels, and satellite‐based global positioning systems (GPS). Record the results of surveys including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features. Adjust surveying instruments to maintain their accuracy.
