Arcadis is seeking a Technical Director (Structures) with expertise in Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) projects to join our Roads and Highways Ontario team. In this role, you will provide technical leadership for bridge and structural engineering deliverables, working closely with geotechnical, roadway, drainage, and other disciplines to develop integrated solutions for MTO clients. You will be responsible for ensuring technical excellence, appropriate governance, and consistent quality across complex transportation projects, while supporting the continued growth of our bridges/structures and geotechnical capability for MTO work. This role is a combination of technical leadership, project delivery support, and stakeholder management. You will act as a senior technical advisor and reviewer for bridge/structural and geotechnical interfaces, providing guidance on MTO standards and requirements, risk management, constructability, and design innovation. You will contribute to the direction and growth of the MTO structures practice within the firm and help drive continuous improvement of technical tools, standards, and quality processes. Role accountabilities: The successful candidate will be expected to take a Technical Director (Structures) role on a range of MTO projects, providing technical leadership, quality control, and governance for bridge and structural engineering deliverables and their interfaces with geotechnical design. You will provide consultancy services for projects, develop solutions that address complex MTO requirements (including staging, traffic management constraints, utility/rail interfaces, and constructability), and build a professional profile and reputation within the industry and within Arcadis. You will establish effective, multi-disciplinary teams to deliver bridge/structural and geotechnical components successfully; manage technical risk mitigation, safety in design, and value in design and delivery processes; and define and implement technical review plans, key milestones, and reporting at all stages. You will support the development of staff by coaching and mentoring on bridge design, structural rehabilitation, foundation and earthworks considerations, and MTO-specific issues. You will help establish and consolidate relationships with MTO and other public sector clients, use your sector knowledge to identify and pursue opportunities, and provide technical leadership input into the bidding process. In this role, you will work closely with project managers, design managers, discipline leads, and multi-disciplinary teams delivering MTO assignments. You will act as a technical authority for structures and the structures–geotechnical interface, ensuring designs are coordinated, compliant with MTO standards, and delivered to required quality, schedule, and budget. You will promote consistent technical governance and a strong safety culture, support the development of staff assigned to your projects, and help identify training and mentoring needs to strengthen bridge and geotechnical delivery capability. You will support the recruitment and capability-building of the structures team by providing input on role requirements, participating in interviews as needed, and contributing to onboarding and technical development plans. You will provide technical direction and oversight for complex bridge and structural rehabilitation/new design assignments, ensuring clear communication and collaboration between Arcadis colleagues and subconsultants.
