Position

Summary: The Senior Engineer manages work in engineering areas of specialization, with minimal supervision. The Senior Engineer is expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. Employees in the Senior Engineer position are fully competent in the use of concepts and procedures. The Senior Engineer identifies problems, develops solutions and takes action to resolve. This position will assist in providing technical guidance to Grid Management in the DCC. The position supports communications across several internal departments in addition to external customers and is responsible for developing and implementing business plans, budgets, and training initiatives for the Company regarding DCC and ADMS initiatives. Areas of expertise in addition to Distribution engineering knowledge include ADMS and Switching and Tagging. Solves complex problems and demonstrates a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions. Plans and determines priorities for self and other team members and prescribes the processes needed to achieve the objectives within the framework of the organization’s operating policies. Responsible for analysis of complex plans, designs, construction and maintenance of structures, facilities, systems, components, and system operations with voltage levels typically 34.5KV and below. Assignments are broad in nature and require ability to identify trends and create system-level solutions that require extensive originality and ingenuity.

Responsibilities

Serve as technical resource in all aspects of the Company's distribution operations with a detailed focus on distribution engineering and system operations. Primary responsibilities in DCC include monitoring the operation of the ADMS to ensure effective, safe operation of ADMS and associated DA equipment, self-healing technology, and ensuring focus on volt/var management to meet requirements for service voltage levels and power factor goal. Plans and determines priorities for self and other team members and prescribes the processes needed to achieve objectives within the framework of the organization’s operating policies. Writes or oversees the development of switching plans, technical procedures, and guidelines used in the operation of the distribution system. Demonstrate program and project management discipline through roles over various complex projects in the distribution organization. Primary projects include effective utilization of ADMS and associated DA equipment, timely seasonal load transfers, and continued focus on service restoration while adhering to Distribution engineering parameters. Provide technical support to management, DCC operations personnel and internal and external customers within area of responsibility. Provide peer leadership and direction for lower level engineers across the company. Serve on special projects and teams including IVVC, FISR, and Self-Healing. Support deployment and operation of distribution automation devices including line regulators, capacitors, reclosers and power sensors. Provide technical expertise and support for self healing devices and systems. Analyze feeder/sub data and monitor alarms provided by various technologies (e.g. ADMS, FAM, DSCADA, etc.) to identify trends, abnormal operating characteristics, and develop corrective actions.
