Texas NeuroRehab Center is a specialized treatment facility located ten minutes from downtown Austin on 67 wooded acres. Originally a cattle ranch, the land was purchased in 1943 as part of The Brown Schools and has operated as a medical rehabilitation and behavioral healthcare facility for over 80 years. Today, Texas NeuroRehab Center provides complex medical and brain and spinal cord injury rehab for ages 13 years and older and neuropsychiatric treatment for youth. The capabilities of the facility as a whole allow for integrated and specialized care for children, adolescents and adults facing difficult challenges. Candidates will possess skills in the rehabilitation of neurologically impaired patients, with proficiency in the evaluation and treatment of speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders. Focus of service provision will be centered on evaluating and treating cognitive-communicative abilities with goals of returning to the home and community settings. Skills

Knowledge and Abilities: Extensive knowledge of adolescent and adult speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders, and treatment strategies associated with brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injuries, and other neurological disorders.

Education

M.A., M.S., M.Ed., SLPD, or Ph.D in Speech-Language Pathology Licensure: Current SLP licensure in the State of Texas. Certification in CPR.

Experience

Completion of Clinical Fellowship Year. Physical / General Requirements: Able to sustain activity eight hours a day. Able to remain on feet eight hours per day. Able to confront a dangerous and aggressive patient. Able to verbally communicate to de-escalate a crisis situation, explain treatment to the patient to allow active participation, and to protect self and others from aggressive patients or other incidents. Able to restrain patients by individual or team restraint per facility policy. Able to frequently lift, carry, and lower 50 pounds without assistance. Able to kneel, stoop, bend, and pull various weights or items (up to 50 pounds).Able to push patients in wheelchairs up and down hills, pursue running patients, and traverse hospital grounds. Able to transfer patients to and from wheelchairs. Able to visually observe so as to convey patient
