About this role
Amazon's LATAM Operations Compliance team is seeking a Food Safety Compliance Lead to support the company's food safety program in Mexico. This role ensures ongoing compliance with Mexican food safety regulations, including COFEPRIS requirements and applicable NOM standards. The successful candidate will be responsible for regulatory engagement, compliance monitoring, training development, incident management, and site visits across Amazon's operations in Mexico. This is a critical regulatory role that requires independent judgment on regulatory interpretation, direct engagement with Mexican authorities, and autonomous decision-making in a complex and evolving regulatory environment. Key job responsibilities - Lead compliance efforts related to Mexican food safety regulations (COFEPRIS/NOM standards), ensuring Amazon operations meet all applicable requirements - Serve as Operations Compliance point of contact for regulatory engagement with COFEPRIS and other food safety authorities - Collect, maintain, and manage compliance documentation required for operations - Monitor audit results and drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) to closure - Develop and deliver food safety compliance training programs for operational teams - Manage food safety incidents, including investigation, root cause analysis, and resolution - Conduct site visits to verify compliance with food safety standards and identify improvement opportunities - Monitor regulatory changes to COFEPRIS/NOM standards and assess impact on Amazon operations - Provide cross-functional advisory support as the food safety SME for business expansion initiatives (new categories, new sites) - Track compliance KPIs, develop metrics, and report to leadership on program health - Collaborate with Operations, Business teams, Legal, WHS, and Quality stakeholders to embed food safety requirements into processes - Develop scalable solutions and mechanisms to maintain compliance across a growing operational footprint A day in the life As a Food Safety Compliance Lead, you might start your day reviewing the latest regulatory updates from COFEPRIS and assessing whether any operational changes are needed. Mid-morning, you could be conducting a site visit to verify food safety controls are in place, followed by a debrief with the local Operations team on findings. In the afternoon, you might lead a training session for a newly launched site, then close the day by updating your compliance dashboard and preparing a status report for leadership. No two days are the same — you'll balance proactive compliance work with reactive incident management, all while building relationships with regulators and internal stakeholders.
