About this Role North Houston Pole Line (NHPL) is seeking an experienced Shop Mechanic to inspect, maintain, and repair the company’s fleet of trucks, trailers, and construction equipment. Working primarily from the shop, this position helps ensure equipment is safe, reliable, and ready to support NHPL’s utility construction crews. North Houston Pole Line supports transmission, distribution, substation, underground, and emergency-restoration operations and maintains specialized equipment used throughout utility construction. The Traveling Mechanic must be comfortable responding to changing priorities, and troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and related equipment issues away from the main shop. What You'll Do
Diagnose, maintain, and repair trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, and specialized utility construction equipment. Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and safety checks according to established schedules. Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, brake, engine, and drivetrain systems. Repair or replace worn and damaged components using appropriate tools, diagnostic equipment, and service information. Inspect incoming equipment for reported and unreported repair needs before returning units to service. Complete work orders, service records, and DOT-related repair documentation accurately and on time. Perform minor welding, fabrication, and equipment adjustments as needed. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop while following NHPL, DOT, OSHA, and manufacturer requirements.
What You'll Bring
High school diploma or GED preferred. 3+ years of experience repairing heavy-duty trucks, construction equipment, or comparable fleet equipment. Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, brakes, and mechanical systems. Ability to diagnose equipment failures and complete repairs with limited supervision. Familiarity with preventative maintenance programs and DOT inspection requirements. Welding and fabrication skills preferred. Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred based on equipment responsibilities. Ability to lift up to approximately 60 pounds and safely climb on, under, and around trucks and heavy equipment.
