Summary This position will provide safety leadership and strategic direction by leading the plant’s continuous safety improvement efforts. As an integral member of the Plant Management Team, this position will support and advise site management regarding the Safety Management System. Responsibilities include formulating a proactive local safety strategy that drives the plant to become a sustainable, healthy, and safe operation; participating in the development of a safety vision that includes continual enhancement of established programs and consistent implementation of new programs within a team environment; and supporting efforts to eliminate, prevent, or reduce the occurrence of safety, health, and medical issues. This position will also facilitate the development and maintenance of behaviors, attitudes, and a safety culture that supports the goals, behaviors, and actions of Tyson Foods and will act as a change agent to accelerate best-practice sharing within the facility.   Essential Duties and Responsibilities Direct safety programs for the site. Recommend the design and implementation of new programs to minimize company losses due to accidents and measure program effectiveness. Lead compliance with OSHA regulations and the Tyson Foods Ergonomic Program. Inspect machinery, equipment, and working conditions to ensure compliance with OSHA requirements. Maintain OSHA files and supporting documentation. Accompany OSHA inspectors during plant inspections. Regularly inspect and review plant operations to ensure compliance of all permits, operations, and equipment with state and federal regulations. Report potential violations and recommend corrective actions as needed. Analyze accident statistics to determine necessary precautions and identify changes needed to improve plant safety. Communicate safety policy and procedure updates to management personnel. Ensure all health and safety policies, procedures, and practices are reviewed annually, or more frequently as required by operational changes or regulatory updates, and are implemented in a timely manner. Conduct safety inspections and procedural audits in the field and take immediate corrective action when necessary. Review safety-related issues to evaluate policies, determine root causes, identify corrective actions, and conduct training in areas including: Ergonomics Emergency Response Team (ERT) Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Hazard Communication Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Investigate all safety-related incidents, review incident reports, and complete required documentation for insurance carriers, risk management systems, and the corporate safety office.

Requirements

Education Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

Three or more years of progressive experience in environmental, safety, and sustainability management preferred. Strong knowledge of safety regulations, OSHA standards, hazard communication, accident investigation, and safety training methods. Knowledge of industry best practices related to safety and environmental programs, including Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Program (RMP) safety practices.   Computer Skills Proficient in standard computer applications and systems.   Communication Skills Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.   Special Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
