We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Physician Assistant to join our high-performing Surgical Oncology team at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), Monday–Friday ambulatory position focused on the pre-operative and post-operative management of patients undergoing complex oncologic surgical procedures. The provider will work closely with patients managing disease processes such as gastrointestinal (GI), hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB), gastroesophageal, and soft tissue malignancies. As an integral member of the surgical oncology team, the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will provide comprehensive care to patients in the ambulatory and inpatient consultative setting, working in close collaboration with nationally respected surgical oncologists and multidisciplinary care teams. This non-operative position is ideal for an APP passionate about complex care coordination, patient education, and longitudinal follow-up.
Key Responsibilities
Provide pre-operative assessments, post-operative follow-ups, patient education, and routine post-discharge care in the outpatient setting Assist in inpatient consultations and support timely, coordinated discharges Participate in daily patient review rounds and contribute to weekly multidisciplinary tumor board and care huddles Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the EMR (Cerner) Serve as a liaison between surgeons, referring physicians, inpatient teams, and outpatient specialty services Help optimize care pathways for patients undergoing complex surgeries involving hepatobiliary, colorectal, breast, and soft tissue malignancies Qualifications: Completion and graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program CPR certification Eligible for Maryland and DC licenses New grads are welcome to apply!
