Meeting the world’s growing energy needs requires the pursuit of innovations and advancements that deliver a better future for all About the position Subsurface Drilling Hazard Assessment Earth Scientist will characterize subsurface hazards and translate that into the impact on well design and operations. They will support Well Delivery Process (WDP) by delivering Subsurface Drilling Hazard Assessments (SSDHA), well planning and execution documents through all phases of WDP process. The role also involves working closely with Drilling Engineering, Asset Development, Petrophysics, and other Geology & Geophysics Operations (G&G Ops) Teams to develop mitigation strategies of identified subsurface hazards and risks. This role participates in the deployment of G&G Ops workflows and standards.
Key Responsibilities
Interpret seismic and well data to identify drilling hazards and geologic uncertainty. Integrate new well data into subsurface models and continuously improve hazard assessments. Develop subsurface drilling hazard assessments: Evaluate hazards including shallow gas, shallow water flow, faulting, instability, overpressure, fractured formations, gas hydrates, wellbore instability, and other key hazards. Identify primary and secondary drilling risks triggered by hazards. Collaborate with Drilling Engineering, Exploration, Asset Development, Petrophysics, Geomechanics, and Operations teams to develop mitigation strategies. Support well planning, assurance reviews, drilling execution, and post-well lookbacks. Maintain compliance with G&G Ops standards and the Well Delivery Process. Perform real-time surveillance and G&G Ops reporting and track/verify geological non-productive time during drilling.
