THE JOB: It is the primary responsibility of the Senior Retail Buyer to communicate and execute retail buying strategies for achieving sales and financial objectives in support of property financial goals. The Senior Retail Buyer focuses on a complex product assortment that is unique to the properties. All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and MGM Resorts policies, practices and procedures. THE DAY-TO-DAY: Directs all aspects of the buying process for a high volume and/or highly complex product category in support of luxury and ultra-luxury property strategic plans. Creates a compelling assortment that will meet financial targets and support property brand objectives. Analyzes historic data, trends, product assortment, and competition to develop the strategy. Analyzes current business performance to identify growth opportunities and in-season risks, managing inventory, markdowns, and exit strategies in collaboration with corporate and property leadership. Negotiates exclusive offerings, terms, pricing, vendor funded markdowns, return-to-vendor agreements, and drop-ship programs. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with members of cross-functional teams and is able to influence them to achieve results. Evaluates market trends, maintains a knowledge base of potential product concepts, and introduces new vendors and categories to drive competitive advantage. Develops target customer profile for luxury and ultra-luxury properties through market data, competitive shopping analysis and business trends. Participates in the merchandising budgetary process for properties which includes inventory, sales, receipts, markdowns, turn, gross margin percent and weeks of supply. Manages product categories specific to general merchandise including but not limited to beverage, tobacco, food/candy, electronics, sun care, and HBA. Executes planograms specific to each retail outlet and assists with in-store merchandising. Supports and mentors diversity vendors by communicating the vendor diversity certification process and vendor compliance to support MGM Resort International’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. Leads, mentors and trains junior team members; makes performance recommendations as appropriate.
