This role in summary The EHS Safety & Operational Training Specialist is an integrated, hands-on role responsible for championing site-wide environmental, health, and safety (EHS) compliance while leading frontline employee training and onboarding. This position bridges safety program management with operational execution, utilizing World Class Manufacturing (WCM) methodologies (e.g., 4P Method, TWI) and Lean principles to build a safe, compliant, and highly skilled workforce. Acting as a key point of contact for safety regulations, emergency response, and operator development, this role combines active field auditing, technical EHS support, trainer coaching, and continuous improvement driving. Your responsibilities will include Safety Compliance & Program Management: Develop, revise, and maintain EHS safety programs, SOPs, and work instructions. Ensure full compliance with OSHA, EPA, and internal standards, maintaining meticulous records and preparing regulatory reports. Training Leadership & Onboarding: Lead and execute site-wide onboarding and technical training plans through Level 4 certification. Direct trainee activities, evaluate and certify trainers, and coordinate onboarding with leadership, temporary hiring partners, and safety teams. Technical EHS Support & Field Audits: Conduct site safety audits, hazard surveys, and ergonomic risk assessments. Direct hazardous waste/chemical management, industrial hygiene, fire protection programs, and health screenings (audiometric testing, respirator fit-testing). Standardization & PIT Certification: Audit safe work practices and PPE usage. Develop standard work documents, train new drivers on practical PIT operations, and conduct Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) certification and refresher testing. Continuous Improvement & Coaching: Analyze incident root causes, track performance gaps, and execute corrective action plans. Act as a lead coach on WCM and Lean tools, supporting Safety Pillar activities, Kaizen events, and peer-to-peer operator development. Emergency Response & Training Facilitation: Lead emergency response actions and address employee EHS concerns directly. Deliver shift orientations, safety modules, and Train-the-Trainer sessions for both small and large groups. Physical Requirements Mobility & Stamina: Ability to stand and walk continuously across industrial floors, concrete, or uneven terrain for extended periods (10+ hours per day). Agility: Frequent climbing (ladders, catwalks), balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and crawling to inspect machinery and support technical floor operations. Lifting: Ability to lift and move up to 40 lbs unassisted (e.g., spill kits, safety/training gear) and occasionally up to 50 lbs with assistance. Sensory & Situational Awareness: Visual acuity to read fine print and detect equipment wear; ability to distinguish colors, detect odors, and hear moving machinery/alarms. PPE & Equipment Operations: Ability to wear required PPE (respirators, hard hats, steel-toes, safety glasses) for extended periods in variable conditions (extreme temperatures, noise, chemical environments) and fulfill all physical criteria for PIT operation.
