About the opportunity Digital Products is looking for embedded and systems engineering interns who are interested in how software, hardware, controls, and vehicle systems work together. Depending on the team, you may contribute to low-level software, real-time systems, hardware/software integration, simulation, diagnostics, or test environments that help accelerate vehicle software development. Assignments may include developing, integrating, simulating, testing, troubleshooting, and documenting components or systems used in engineering and validation. Potential team and work areas Opportunities may be aligned to the following groups and product areas from the Digital Products intern intake: Physical and Virtual Test Platforms: Virtualization Tools, Virtual Test Infrastructure, SDV2.0 Infrastructure Component HIL Lab, Electric Propulsion Component HIL Lab, Chassis & Brakes Component HIL Labs, Infotainment Lab Operations, and System and Subsystem HIL Simulation Integration Vehicle Software Integrity and Delivery: Wired Programming, Calibration Management Tools, VCAM, diagnostics, and software delivery tools Digital Vehicle Experience (DVE): Digital vehicle applications, software and systems integration, and vehicle-facing experiences OnStar Sales, Activation and Experience (OnStar SAE): Carrier & Vehicle Experience Services and connected-service integrations Emerging and Strategic Businesses (ESB): GM Fleet systems and connected mobility experiences Potential skills and contributions Develop or improve embedded software, scripts, models, tools, or test automation Support integration of hardware, software, controllers, sensors, networks, and test environments Build or use simulation models and analyze results from real-time or faster-than-real-time testing Troubleshoot issues using logs, measurements, test results, schematics, or system data Assist with hardware-in-the-loop, bench, infotainment, reflash, or diagnostic testing Collaborate with software, electrical, mechanical, systems, validation, product, and lab partners Required qualifications Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering, systems engineering, or a related field Must have at least one additional quarter/semester of school remaining following the completion of the internship Availability to work full-time, 40 hours per week, during the 12 week summer internship period between May -August or June – September 2027 Coursework, project, lab, competition, research, or prior experience involving programming, electronics, controls, systems, or testing Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to work across hardware and software boundaries Ability to communicate clearly, work collaboratively, and learn new technical tools Ability to work onsite at the assigned GM location, including in a lab or test environment when required Preferred experience Candidates are not expected to meet every qualification listed below.
