A Day in the Life Patient Care Systems develops the connected software ecosystem supporting Medtronic implantable cardiac devices. The portfolio includes secure device connectivity, real-time data platforms, clinical tools, mobile applications, and software interfaces that help clinicians monitor and manage patient care. This role is based at the Parkmore Campus and follows a hybrid work arrangement. No travel is required. The Principal Software Test Engineer will provide technical leadership for the verification and test automation of software supporting implantable cardiac devices. You will define automation strategy, build scalable test frameworks, guide engineering decisions, and partner with Research and Development, Quality, and DevOps teams to improve software quality, delivery predictability, and compliance throughout the software development lifecycle.

Lead the test automation strategy, including framework architecture, test planning, implementation, execution, and continuous improvement. Design, develop, and maintain scalable automation tools and frameworks for application, network, mobile, connectivity, and integrated software systems. Define software verification strategies with Research and Development and Quality partners, balancing delivery efficiency with regulatory and product requirements. Guide technical decisions related to test engineering, automation tooling, system integration, risk-based testing, and test evidence generation. Integrate automated testing into continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines, including parallel and distributed test execution. Review requirements, specifications, designs, code, and other engineering artefacts to identify testability, quality, and delivery risks. Establish and maintain test infrastructure, including setup, validation, troubleshooting, and ongoing technical support. Mentor test engineers and influence engineering standards, automation practices, and technical direction across matrixed teams.

Bachelor’s degree at Level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a defined technical discipline, with 7+ years of software test engineering experience; or an advanced degree in one of these disciplines with 2+ years of relevant experience. Hands-on experience designing and implementing automated software tests using Appium, Selenium, or both. Experience developing test strategies, test plans, automated test solutions, and test execution approaches for software products. Programming experience using at least one of the following languages: Java, C#, JavaScript, or Python. Experience leading technical test engineering decisions and delivering automation frameworks across the software development lifecycle.

Experience testing mobile applications or connected systems on Android and iOS platforms. Experience integrating automated tests into continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines. Experience with software verification, risk-based testing, and test evidence generation in a regulated environment.
