Program Manager III, Carbon Credits and Removals, Global Sustainability

As a Program Manager at Google, you’ll lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish — working with stakeholders to plan requirements, manage project schedules, identify risks, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners across the company. Your projects will often span offices, time zones, and hemispheres. It's your job to coordinate the players and keep them up to date on progress and deadlines. The Carbon Removal team's mission is to find and scale the innovations both the planet and Google will need to fight climate change. Our portfolio spans breakthrough carbon removal technologies, nature-based carbon removal, and superpollutant elimination. We are part of the Global Sustainability Team and collaborate closely with research, product, and advocacy teams across Google. The Global Sustainability team enables Google to build a more sustainable future for everyone by driving strategy and solutions. We drive the development and implementation of Google’s global sustainability strategy to further empower action, ensure alignment and prioritization, identify leadership opportunities, and mitigate risks. We drive sustainability strategy and programs on carbon, circular economy, water, product integration, reporting, and employee engagement, while serving as a sustainability leadership advocate internally and externally. Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Manage carbon removal offtake deals from end to end, sourcing the right projects and executing agreements. Set strategy for a defined area of carbon removal or superpollutant procurement (i.e., a given pathway or geography). Shape and drive complex sustainability programs, iterating rapidly to navigate ambiguous environmental markets. Lead diligence for projects, applying both a technical screen (to assess scale and certainty of climate impact) and a commercial one (to assess viability and business value). Negotiate and contract deals in collaboration with internal collaborators and approvers, suppliers, and other third parties.

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience. 5 years of experience in program or project management. Experience with carbon removal and superpollutant credit types (e.g., biomass-based, alkalinity-based, nature-based, and superpollutant elimination pathways). Experience managing an end-to-end pipeline of agreements from sourcing through facilitation. Preferred qualifications: 5 years of experience managing cross-functional or cross-team projects. Experience managing and driving complex programs in ambiguous environments. Experience with communications, marketing, or public relations. Experience conducting business across a variety of geographies, both within the United States and globally. Experience working directly with suppliers on carbon removal or sustainability projects.
