Job Description

Reporting to the Head of Mechanical Engineering, the Mechanical Engineer will be part of a team responsible for the mechanical design, development, and qualification of networking products and systems. This is an entry-level position intended for a recent Mechanical Engineering graduate who is interested in developing hands-on product design experience in a fast-paced hardware development environment. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in mechanical engineering fundamentals, enjoys designing and building hardware, and is eager to learn from experienced engineers while contributing directly to product development. Support the mechanical design and development of networking systems, chassis, line cards, and related hardware from concept through production. Create and modify 3D CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings. Apply mechanical engineering fundamentals including GD&T, tolerance analysis, materials selection, structural mechanics, and heat transfer. Participate in prototype builds, laboratory testing, design verification, and product qualification. Assist with mechanical failure investigations and root-cause analysis. Work closely with senior engineers to evaluate design concepts and identify technical risks. Collaborate with Electrical, Thermal, Signal Integrity, Reliability, Manufacturing, Operations, and Supply Chain teams. Support the integration of PCBs, connectors, cables, optical modules, fans, heatsinks, and other components into mechanical assemblies. Participate in design reviews and contribute engineering analysis and recommendations. Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners to resolve design and manufacturability issues. Support DFM/DFA activities and learn manufacturing processes including sheet metal fabrication, machining, die casting, extrusion, and plastics. Assist in the preparation of engineering specifications, test plans, technical reports, BOMs, and engineering change documentation. Gain exposure to air and liquid cooling technologies used in high-performance electronic systems. Support prototype and production builds and help troubleshoot issues found during assembly and testing. Develop technical skills and progressively take ownership of components, assemblies, and engineering activities.

Education

Required BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. Recent graduate or up to 2 years of relevant engineering experience. Preferred MS/PhD in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. Internship, co-op, academic project, or research experience involving mechanical product design or electromechanical systems. Coursework, project, internship, or research experience in structural analysis, FEA, vibration, or mechanical reliability. Experience with electronics packaging, computer/server hardware, robotics, automotive, aerospace, telecommunications, or similar hardware products. Hands-on experience building and testing mechanical or electromechanical systems. Expected Competencies Working knowledge of 3D solid modeling tools; SolidWorks or Creo experience preferred.
