Overview

RTC (Real-Time Communications) Runtime Infrastructure within IC3 (Intelligent Conversation and Communication Cloud) provides the foundational layer that powers real-time communication services across Microsoft Teams, Skype, and Azure Communication Services. Our responsibilities span service orchestration, reliability, modernization, security, operational excellence, and the transformation of engineering through AI-powered agentic systems.   As a Senior Software Engineer, you will help build and operate the infrastructure that supports millions of calls, meetings, and collaboration experiences worldwide. You will play a key role in ensuring high availability through defense-in-depth strategies while leveraging AI-assisted engineering approaches to improve productivity, quality, and operational efficiency. You will explore, evaluate, and apply emerging technologies across cloud infrastructure, real-time communications, and AI-driven automation. Responsibilities

Build and operate scalable infrastructure that powers real-time communication experiences for millions of users worldwide. Design and implement AI-assisted agentic workflows that automate engineering tasks across planning, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and incident response. Partner with engineers, product teams, and platform organizations to deliver end-to-end solutions with high reliability and operational excellence. Leverage AI agents to accelerate code development, validation, root-cause analysis, service upgrades, and operational readiness. Work on large-scale streaming and real-time communication technologies that support next-generation collaboration and Copilot experiences. Contribute to modernization initiatives, including Linux, ARM, cloud-native architectures, and intelligent automation platforms.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent experience. Other Requirements This role requires the ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python; OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python; OR equivalent experience. Experience with distributed systems, databases, and cloud-native architectures. Experience building and integrating AI-powered developer tools, copilots, agents, or workflow automation systems. Experience with large language models (LLMs), prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), agent orchestration frameworks, and AI-assisted software development workflows. Familiarity with modern DevOps practices, GitOps, CI/CD automation, and infrastructure-as-code. Experience operating large-scale distributed cloud services and applying automation to improve reliability and operational efficiency. Knowledge of Kubernetes,
