It provides care to students, faculty, staff, eligible post-docs, retirees, and their dependents. HUHS also manages two university-owned health plans, HUGHP and SHIP, and collaborates with other departments to address public health needs.

Job Description

Serves as the initial onsite responder for building conditions affecting patient care, clinical and building operations. Provides frontline building operations and central services support for HUHS locations, including routine inspections, basic upkeep, minor finish repairs, deliveries, room and furniture support, and coordination of service requests. Job-Specific Responsibilities: Transports medical records, medical supplies, mail, laboratory specimens, vaccines, , equipment, and other materials between HUHS locations, satellite clinics, and other facilities in accordance with applicable policies and procedures. Operates the HUHS van and keeps it clean and organized, including coordinating routine vehicle servicing, inspections, oil and filter changes, and seasonal care through University Transportation Services or other designated service providers. Performs routine visual inspections and preventative building upkeep of assigned spaces, and troubleshoots and reports conditions that may affect safety, comfort, cleanliness, access, or operations. Assesses and triages observed building conditions, including leaks, unusual temperatures, electrical or equipment concerns, damaged fixtures, and access issues. Performs basic corrective actions or temporary measures within the scope of the position, and takes reasonable steps to protect people, property, and operations. Uses general knowledge of building systems and operational procedures to identify the appropriate point of contact for specialized assistance and coordinates specialized building service work with Harvard University Campus Services and outside vendors or contractors. Performs miscellaneous finish and carpentry work, including drywall patching, painting, improvements to offices and clinical spaces, installation of approved wall-mounted equipment, and adjustment or replacement of door and cabinet hardware. Works independently and collaboratively with Central Services staff to carry out departmental responsibilities, including unloading trucks, moving furniture and supplies, preparing rooms, and responding to requests for assistance. Provides access and basic information to vendors and contractors; observes work in progress when appropriate, documents or reports issues, and verifies that assigned work appears to be completed before closing or escalating the service request. Places authorized temporary controls, signage, or notifications when necessary to help protect staff, patients, visitors, equipment, and facilities until qualified assistance is available. Maintains basic supplies, tools, and materials used for routine building-support activities and reports replenishment needs. Performs other job-related duties as assigned, including cross-training to support the Central Services team during team absences.
