What We're Looking For
The Power BI Developer and Administrator transforms raw data into actionable business intelligence. This role requires a balance of analytical insight, technical proficiency in data modeling/DAX, and the ability to manage our Power BI service environment. The successful candidate will collaborate with business stakeholders to understand reporting needs, connect to multiple enterprise data source systems (not just Excel), and ensure dashboards are built, published, and maintained securely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
1. Power BI Development and Data Modeling Requirement Gathering: Translate logical business requirements into clear technical specifications and analytical workflows. Data Connectivity: Connect directly to backend enterprise systems (SQL databases, cloud warehouses, and APIs), moving beyond flat Excel files. Data Modeling: Design efficient, optimized data schemas (Star/Snowflake) and establish clean table relationships. DAX & Power Query: Author high-performing DAX queries, calculations, and measures. Perform complex data transformation and cleansing in Power Query. Dashboard Design: Build intuitive, user-friendly, and visually clean dashboards that emphasize clear data storytelling. 2. Power BI Platform Administration Workspace & Deployment: Set up and manage workspaces, app publishing pipelines, and deployment environments. Access Control & Security: Configure Row-Level Security (RLS) and manage workspace user permissions and sharing. Gateway & Refresh Management: Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot on-premises/cloud data gateways and automated refresh schedules. Performance Optimization: Proactively monitor report performance, identify bottlenecks, and resolve dataset refresh errors. Required Skills and Qualifications Professional Experience: 1 to 2 years of actual, hands-on experience building and administering Power BI environments. Strong SQL Skills: Proficient in writing and optimizing SQL queries (joins, aggregations, subqueries) to extract and manipulate data directly. Cloud Databases: Experience connecting to and querying modern cloud platforms (such as Snowflake, Databricks, Azure SQL, BigQuery, or Redshift). Power BI Fundamentals: Solid core knowledge of Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, data gateways, and complex DAX measures. Analytical Reasoning: Strong logical thinking and problem-solving skills to ask clarifying questions and unpack requirements. Preferred Skills and Qualifications Microsoft Fabric & GCP: Exposure to Microsoft Fabric (OneLake, Lakehouses) and experience querying data within Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery). Certifications & Tools: Microsoft PL-300 certification or basic familiarity with Power Platform tools (Power Apps, Power Automate).
