About this role
Fractile was founded in 2022 on the bet that, eventually, the world’s most capable AI systems would be limited in their impact by the time taken to produce useful outputs. We bet everything on the logical conclusion: that the only way to truly unlock this latent value, to make speed viable at scale, was to radically reinvent the hardware that we run our frontier AI models on. Ever since, we have been building chips and systems that tackle this problem: how to efficiently generate output at thousands of tokens per second, while handling the complexity and capacity challenges of operating large models at very long contexts.
The role
Fractile is at a pivotal moment in our growth to serve as our primary export compliance authority. You will build, operationalize, and maintain the trade compliance frameworks, classification pipelines, and operational controls that safeguard and enable our advanced AI hardware operations and global supply chain.
Key Responsibilities
• Trade Compliance Operations
• Act as Fractile’s designated Export Compliance Officer, taking operational and legal ownership of US, UK, and relevant international export controls and economic sanctions compliance. Act as the official point of contact for licenses, audits, and compliance enforcement.
• Lead hands-on ECCN / classifications for all Fractile technology and products. Manage end-to-end export licensing processes, including UK ECJU (SPIRE/LITE) and US BIS applications, end-user undertakings (EUUs), and license condition monitoring.
• Oversee denied party screening workflows across customers, vendors, supply chain partners, and prospective hires.
• Assist with customs compliance processes.
• Work with stakeholders on implementation of suitable IT controls and systems.
• Policy Framework & Operational Integration
• Design, embed, and continuously audit Fractile’s internal compliance programme tailored to scale-up speed. Integrate compliance checks and export hold mechanisms into enterprise workflows. Develop and deliver practical, role-specific training regarding controlled technology transfers (deemed exports/re-exports).
• Audit Readiness & Regulator Engagement
• Maintain rigorous, audit-ready record-keeping systems for all exports, re-exports, and technical data transfers. Act as the primary operational contact for UK ECJU, HMRC, US BIS, and freight forwarders during compliance audits or shipping inquiries. Monitor regulatory updates targeting AI hardware, semiconductor supply chains, and sanctions to adjust operational processes rapidly.
Candidate Profile & Qualifications
• Relevant Experience: 5+ years of dedicated trade compliance experience within a technology (ideally semiconductor) scale-up/multinational.
• Domain Expertise: Practical, working mastery of both UK export control rules (ECJU) and US rules (deemed exports, foreign direct product rules, and sanctions regimes).
• Technical Aptitude: Proven capability to translate complex technical hardware/software specs into precise ECCN classifications.
• Systems Experience: Experience implementing and operating automated screening.
• Pragmatic Business Partner: Ability to build smooth, low-friction, proportionate processes and operational controls that keep fast-moving engineering and commercial teams compliant without stalling growth.
What We Offer
• Competitive salary: A
