Job Description

Telemundo 20 San Diego (KUAN) and NBC 7 San Diego (KNSD) are seeking an experienced, strategic, and innovative News Director to lead the content strategy and day-to-day news operation for Telemundo 20 while overseeing weather and sports content across the San Diego duopoly. Reporting directly to the Vice President of News, this leader will be responsible for Telemundo 20's local news operation across broadcast, streaming, digital, social, and emerging platforms. In addition, the News Director will provide strategic leadership for weather and sports content across both NBC 7 and Telemundo 20, ensuring consistent execution, audience growth, multiplatform innovation, and excellence in coverage of the stories and events that matter most to San Diego audiences. This role requires a deep understanding of the unique dynamics of the San Diego-Tijuana region and a commitment to serving one of the most vibrant binational communities in North America. The successful candidate will bring a binational news mindset, recognizing that the stories, issues, and audiences of San Diego and Tijuana are deeply interconnected.

Essential Responsibilities

Editorial Leadership & Strategy: Lead the binational content strategy for Telemundo 20 across broadcast, streaming, digital, social, and emerging platforms. Protect and grow audience trust by ensuring journalism consistently reflects the station's brand values, editorial standards, and commitment to serving the San Diego-Tijuana community. Lead Spanish-language breaking news, enterprise reporting, investigative journalism, special projects, and major event coverage while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy, fairness, and journalistic excellence. Foster a culture of innovation, urgency, creativity, and multiplatform storytelling that responds to evolving audience behaviors and content consumption habits. Duopoly Weather & Sports Leadership: Lead planning and execution of sports and severe weather coverage across NBC 7 and Telemundo 20’s linear and streaming channels, websites, mobile apps, and social channels. Directly supervise, coach, and develop the duopoly's meteorologists and sports talent, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and audience connection.
